Some Personal Thoughts and Trivia

Feeling

The Artist's Way Every Day - November 18th

Blonde model Malin Akerman in white blouse and tight shorts

Answered prayers are scary. They imply responsibility. You asked for it. Now that you've got it, what are you going to do? Answered prayers deliver us back to our own hand. This is not comfortable. We find it easier to accept them as examples of synchronicity. It's my experience that we're much more afraid that there might be a God than we are that there might not be. People talk about how dreadful it would be if there were no God. I think such talk is hooey. Most of us are a lot more comfortable feeling we're not being watched too closely.

As artists, we have antennae sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of those around us. We can be chilled by indifference, hurt by lack of consideration, and we can be exhausted and diminished if we are in the company of those who talk down to us or treat us subtly like the identified patient: "Oh, you and your crazy ideas." As artists, we need our crazy ideas, and we need those who don't think they're too crazy. Symphonies and screenplays begin as crazy ideas. So do novels and nocturnes, bronzes and ballets.

Thought for Today: Banish Sorrow

Don't be sorry, be content — it's a choice not a chore. Never identify with others' sorrow or you will go down with them. Be with them, but stay up, so you can uplift them. Help them put things in perspective. But first do that for yourself. Your feeling sorry? Why? Have you lost something? It's an illusion — you have nothing to lose. Everything that comes to you comes to pass, literally. So let all things pass and you will turn the illusion of loss into the reality of liberation... and sorrow will be a distant memory.

It is important to be able to sort useful criticism from the other kind. Often we need to do the sorting out for ourselves, without the benefit of a public vindication. As artists, we are far more able to this sorting than people might suspect. Pointed criticism, if accurate, often gives the artist an inner sense of relief. Useful criticism ultimately leaves us with one more puzzle piece for our work. Useless criticism, on the other hand, leaves us with a feeling of being bludgeoned. As a rule, it is withering and shaming in tone; ambiguous in content, personal, inaccurate, or blanket in its condemnations. There is nothing to be gleaned from irresponsible criticism. You are dealing with an inner child. Artistic child abuse creates rebellion creates block. All that can be done with abusive criticism is to heal from it.

Kindness Is A Philosophy Of The Spirit

Blonde Sarah Elizabeth was playboy's Playmate of the Month for November 2006

To become acquainted with kindness one must be prepared to learn new things and feel new feelings. Kindness is more than a philosophy of the mind. It is a philosophy of the spirit.

Thought for Today: Choose Feelings

If your days seem filled with unwanted negative feelings, there is only one cure. When they come, choose them. Don't ask why, don't wonder how, don't fight them and never put yourself down for having them. But most of all never blame someone else for how you feel. If you do, it means you are still fast asleep and your choice is to be a victim. When the feelings come, even big disturbing emotional feelings say, "I choose this feeling" and know it comes because of something you have thought or done in the past, perhaps a certain belief that you have learned or an attachment that is threatened. Choice does not mean you want the feelings, but it does mean you are taking responsibility for them. And that is the beginning of self mastery. It is the first step to the healing and resolving of your emotions. But only the first step. Try this today and then ask yourself what the next step might be. If you are really interested to know, you will come to know!

Thought for Today: Heal Yourself

The deepest wounds we all carry are locked in our subconscious (out of our awareness). Deep memories and subtle impressions, from unfinished experience, rooted in the past. The pain from those wounds comes to revisit, to block and paralyze us in the moment called now. We all know it comes without warning — "Why am I feeling this way, I didn't mean to do that, I don't know what made me say that." Healing does not mean finding and treating every single inner scar which send it message to haunt us. It means going even deeper, past those wounds, beyond those distant memories and recording of unfinished business, to the core of our self, to the heart of our spirit, where we find the light and warmth of our own core qualities of love and peace. They are eternally present within us they are what we need to heal all our inner wounds. That's why this kind of deep healing is called spirituality and not therapy.

Is Your Glass Of Life Half Empty?

Brunette Sports Illustrated brunette Emily DiDonato with lovely long hair

Is your glass of life half empty? Or half full?

Seeing my glass of life as mostly full triggers an amazing cycle of transformation. Appreciation for the abundance of life incites gratitude — which brings on that warm comfortable feeling of joy and satisfaction with life. Gratitude for abundance also creates increasing abundance. Being truly grateful for the abundance that is now in my life causes an ever greater abundance to flow in my direction.

Thought for Today: Feeling Great

Huai Mae Khamin waterfall in Sri Nakarin National Park, Thailand

Feeling great is about putting our life in order, rather than having a good time or feeling good at any cost. It is about bringing our inner world into harmony, developing the maturity to align our inner world of thoughts, attitudes and feelings with our outer world of actions, words and relationships. If there is confusion inside, there will be confusion outside.

Dependence on the creator within is really freedom from all other dependencies. Paradoxically, it is also the only route to real intimacy with other human beings. Freed from our terrible fears of abandonment, we are able to live with more spontaneity. Freed from our constant demands for more and more reassurance, our fellows are able to love us back without feeling so burdened. As we come to trust and love our internal guide, we lose our fear of intimacy because we no longer confuse our intimate others with the higher power we are coming to know. We place our dependency on the source itself. The source meets our needs through people, places and things.

Thought for Today: Best Kind of Friend

The best kind of friend is the kind, you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away, feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

Daily Reflection: My Love

This Einfühlung Is Developed By Experience

Raven Brazilian beauty Larissa Ramos poses by sea rocks in a sexy swimsuit

The supreme task of the physicist is the discovery of the most general elementary laws from which the world-picture can be deduced logically. But there is no logical way to the discovery of these elemental laws. There is only the way of intuition, which is helped by a feeling for the order lying behind the appearance, and this Einfühlung [literally, empathy or 'feeling one's way in'] is developed by experience.

Writers procrastinate because they do not feel inspired. Feeling inspired is a luxury. Writing, often excellent writing, can be done without the benefit of feeling inspired. Writers tell themselves they just don't have enough ideas yet, and when they do, then they'll start writing. It actually works exactly backward. When we start to write, we prime the pump and the flow of ideas begins to move. It is the act of writing that calls ideas forward, not ideas that call forward writing.

Thought for Today: Secrets to Overcoming Procrastination

St. Mary's River in winter at Glacier National Park, Montana

Procrastination is not only the thief of time, it is the creator of subtle inner tension. You know you are cheating yourself. There are three secrets to overcoming procrastination. One, don’t wait till you feel like doing it — the feeling will come when you start doing it. Two, list all the things you have to do and then prioritise the list. Three, create a vision of the result and be motivated by the vision of the outcome, not the thought of the process.

Most droughts of the spirit occur because we have tried to be too self-sufficient. We have forgotten that our creativity is a spiritual gift with its taproot in Spirit and not in our own will. "Not I, but the father doeth the works," Christ told us. Great artists through the ages have insisted that they were merely channels for divine energy, that God worked through them, bringing their art to form. Feeling our connection to the divine, we feel less alone, less the sole architect of what it is we would accomplish.

Thought for Today: Abundance

Abundant color surrounds this lake under a late summer sky

Abundance is to see that there are endless possibilities before us. And at the same time, still see an incredibly rich existence right where we are. It is a feeling of gratitude for everything and everyone we have in our life.

Thought for Today: True Peace

Mount Fuji in a peaceful blue as well as reflection in water

True peace can be experienced only when we stop giving and taking sorrow. In order not to give sorrow we need a clear heart that has no ill feelings and for not taking sorrow we need a big heart that can tolerate and help other souls to get over their weaknesses.

Creativity flourishes when we have a sense of safety and self-acceptance. Your artist, like a small child, is happiest when feeling a sense of security. As our artist's protective parent, we learn to place our artist with safe companions. Toxic playmates can capsize out artist's growth.

The Artist's Way Every Day - June 3rd

Blonde actress Estella Warren in a white blouse

For those of us who have become artistically anorectic — yearning to be creative and refusing to feed that hunger in ourselves so that we become more and more focused on our own deprivation — a little authentic luxury can go a long way. The key word here is authentic. Because art is born in expansion, in a belief is sufficient supply, it is critical that we pamper ourselves for the sense of abundance it brings to us. All too often, we become blocked and blame it on our lack of money. This is never an authentic block. The actual block is our feeling of constriction, our sense of powerlessness. Art requires us to empower ourselves with choice. At the most basic level, this means choosing to do self-care.
