Some Personal Thoughts and Trivia

It's kind of fun to do the impossible.

Thought for Today: Banish Ego

The patio in the part of Alhambra complex located in hills above Granada, Spain

Ego is not just having a big head. Ego is present every time you feel any kind of fear, or hear yourself saying "That's mine!". The truth tells us that nothing is 'mine' or 'yours', we are all trustees, and fear is only present where there is the voice of attachment. So where there is ego, there is attachment, and where there is attachment there is fear, and where there is fear there cannot be love and where there is no love there is misery. This is why there is so much unhappiness in the world. Detach from everything, and you will banish ego, fear will be no more, only then can true love return, and our oldest friend happiness will feel it is then safe to make a reappearance in your life..

Martian Death Flu

We have the flu. I don't know if this particular strain has an official name, but if it does, it must be something like "Martian Death Flu". You may have had it yourself. The main symptom is that you wish you had another setting on your electric blanket, up past "HIGH", that said "ELECTROCUTION".

Another symptom is that you cease brushing your teeth, because (a) your teeth hurt, and (b) you lack the strength. Midway through the brushing process, you'd have to lie down in front of the sink to rest for a couple of hours, and rivulets of toothpaste foam would dribble sideways out of your mouth, eventually hardening into crusty little toothpaste stalagmites that would bond your head permanently to the bathroom floor, which is how the police would find you.

You know the kind of flu I'm talking about.

Thought for Today: Heal Yourself

Dual rainbows over field with hay bales in Padstow, England

The deepest wounds we all carry are locked in our subconscious (out of our awareness). Deep memories and subtle impressions, from unfinished experience, rooted in the past. The pain from those wounds comes to revisit, to block and paralyze us in the moment called now. We all know it comes without warning — "Why am I feeling this way, I didn't mean to do that, I don't know what made me say that." Healing does not mean finding and treating every single inner scar which send it message to haunt us. It means going even deeper, past those wounds, beyond those distant memories and recording of unfinished business, to the core of our self, to the heart of our spirit, where we find the light and warmth of our own core qualities of love and peace. They are eternally present within us they are what we need to heal all our inner wounds. That's why this kind of deep healing is called spirituality and not therapy.

The Artist's Way Every Day - November 8th

It is important to be able to sort useful criticism from the other kind. Often we need to do the sorting out for ourselves, without the benefit of a public vindication. As artists, we are far more able to this sorting than people might suspect. Pointed criticism, if accurate, often gives the artist an inner sense of relief. Useful criticism ultimately leaves us with one more puzzle piece for our work. Useless criticism, on the other hand, leaves us with a feeling of being bludgeoned. As a rule, it is withering and shaming in tone; ambiguous in content, personal, inaccurate, or blanket in its condemnations. There is nothing to be gleaned from irresponsible criticism. You are dealing with an inner child. Artistic child abuse creates rebellion creates block. All that can be done with abusive criticism is to heal from it.

Thought for Today: Best Kind of Friend

Sunset over the mountains as seen from Blue Ridge parkway

The best kind of friend is the kind, you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away, feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

Higher and Nobler To Be Kind

It is higher and nobler to be kind.

Celebrated American author and humorist (1835 - 1910)

Thought for Today: Flow Of Life

Flowing stream in the mountains of Switzerland

When I generate kind and optimistic thoughts, my life begins to flow.

Thought for Today: Die Alive

An early morning reflection of Mount Ranier on a still pond

To the unenlightened, death comes but once a lifetime. To those who have chosen to become enlightened there are a thousand chosen deaths before it's time to leave the body and move on. This kind of death is the releasing off all our attachments, from false identity to opinions, from people to possessions. Cutting the subtle threads of attachment frees the spirit from fear, and when the time comes to move on, it's like 'shooting the breeze'. Dying alive is simply letting go of all you hold fast to in your mind. It doesn't actually mean losing anything, simply changing your relationship with the things in your life today. The greatest pleasure for every soul is the result of choosing the living death called detachment. Why? Because attachment is a form of slavery, and it all takes place in our own minds. And the result of detachment? Real freedom.

Courage Is Kind Of Salvation

Courage is a kind of salvation.

Plato

Greek author and philosopher in ancient Athens (427 - 347 BC)

Einstein on Wire Telegraph

Blonde Mexican actress Aracely Arambula poses wearing a black dress

You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat.

Winner of Noble Prize for Physics in 1921 (1879 - 1955)

Kind Of Person That Keeps A Parrot

She was not quite what you would call refined. She was not quite what you would call unrefined. She was the kind of person that keeps a parrot.

Celebrated American author and humorist (1835 - 1910)

Keep Away From People Who Try To Belittle Your Ambitions

Brunette beauty Jamie Edmondson was Playboy's Playmate of the Month for January 2010

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great. When you are seeking to bring big plans to fruition, it is important with whom you regularly associate. Hang out with friends who are like-minded and who are also designing purpose-filled lives. Similarly, be that kind of a friend for your friends.

As artists, we have a different kind of accountability than many people. What pays us and pays off in the long run is really the caliber of our work. As artists, we have an inner Geiger counter and it ticks loud and clear when we are near pay dirt — first-rate, high-caliber ore that means we are working at the top of our form. Because this device is an inner one, it isn't easily fooled by the prestige of a certain venue or the lack of another. What it detects is quality. It knows the real thing when it is near it. This is what "accountability" is for an artist, the blunt assessment: Is it any good? It boils down to the simple fact that artists respect good art — and we respect ourselves when we make it.

Cannot Solve Problems With Same Kind Of Thinking

Blonde model Nina Agdal (not Middleton) on beach in a light blue bikini

We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.

Winner of Noble Prize for Physics in 1921 (1879 - 1955)

Women and Knowledge

Brunette model Mary Castro smiles showing her full cleavage in a white top

Hitherto I have courted Truth with a kind of Romantick Passion, in spite of all Difficulties and Discouragements: for knowledge is thought so unnecessary an Accomplishment for a Woman, that few will give themselves the Trouble to assist us in the Attainment of it.

English feminist writer and rhetorician known as the first English feminist (1666 - 1731)

War And Work For The Universal Brotherhood of Mankind

Blonde American actress Jessica Alba poses in a pink dress

Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, war. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out…and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for the universal brotherhood of man — with his mouth.

Celebrated American author and humorist (1835 - 1910)

African-American beauty Vanessa Williams was a former beauty pageant queen

My mom is the one I love best.
My mom isn't like the rest.
She's funny and she's pretty.
She's kind and she's witty. I
love you! You are the sweetest!

Kind Of Like The Mystique Sex Used To Have

I find some of today's sexually explicit entertainment to be a bit over the top. I kind of like the mystique sex used to have, it's nice when there's a little room for the imagination to work.
