Thought for Today: Mindful Moments

Sunlight shines through autumn leaves on a green hill side

Most of us are of sound mind, but many of us have trouble maintaining a note of harmony and peace. Most of us know how to think, but few of us are able to control our thoughts. We all have the capacity to be creative, to image new ideas, but few of us are able to do it together and co-create in harmony with each other. We could all do with some mental training so that we may use the most powerful energy in the universe, the mind, which is always at our instant disposal. We can begin with mindfulness. It's a simple way to gently help our mind go where it is best to go, do what is the best thing to do. It begins by simply being fully aware of what you are doing. Mostly we are not fully aware, as our minds wander into the past and then into possible futures. We spend most of our time watching others and so rarely fully focus on what we are actually doing ourselves. Next time you sit down to a meal, watch your self. Be aware of only what you are eating. Every time your mind wants to wander, bring it gently and lovingly back to the action and sensation of eating. Then do the same when cleaning, when writing, when working.

Key Is To Trust

Blonde Samantha Torres was Playboy's Playmate of the Month for December 1995

Anything that looks like chaos and calamity in your life is just the Universe’s way of saying ‘Trust me and we’ll make a life together that is beyond your wildest dreams.’ The key is to trust. There’s a bigger vision and purpose inside you that your small brain or Ego can imagine. The Universe has bigger and better plans for you. It’s your job to be of service and not get in your own way. You can only receive what you believe. When you trust you open yourself up to greater possibilities outside of your control or imagination. So what’s it gunna be? Fear or trust?

Always Think First Of Humanity

Blonde Victoria's Secret model Doutzen Kroes in a white swimsuit

My urgent advice to you would be, not only always to think first of America, but always, also, to think first of humanity. You do not love humanity if you seek to divide humanity into jealous camps. Humanity can be welded together only by love, by sympathy, by justice, not by jealousy and hatred. I am sorry for the man who seeks to make personal capital out of the passions of his fellowmen. He has lost touch with the ideal of America. For America was created to unit mankind…

Reflections on July 26, 2013

A boat is pulled up on a sandy beach for the day as the sun sets as a point over the water in the far distance

Life is good. I have had three days of excellent work meetings away from my Connecticut home base and there are many things to follow up on, including two very intriguing opportunities that I had not even envisioned three days ago.

Mom, Dad and I have shared three simple, but nonetheless great evening meals together. Tonight Dad cooked and the focus of the meal was on the various purchased salads that accompanied the meat he selected. As always, the conversation was lively and bounced around touching on many subjects. Fortunately, the OED (Oxford English Dictionary) stayed on its shelf near my Dad's dinner seat since there were no unusual words used about which exact meaning needed to be checked or validated

After washing the dishes and having some fruit for dessert, I took advantage of the cool evening temperatures to complete a walk slightly longer than three miles. That pushed today's step count above 13,200 and also ensured that the consecutive day count is now 41. Sometime this weekend I hope to calculate just where I stand relative to the one million step challenge.

Nobody Knows Of The Work

Brunette actress Sophia Loren shows off her log legs while sitting in sun

Nobody knows of the work it makes
To keep the home together.
Nobody knows of the steps it takes,
Nobody knows — but Mother.

Caroline Myss on Intuition

Cover of book Invisible Acts of Power

We often hesitate to follow our intuition out of fear. Most usually, we are afraid of the changes in our own life that our actions will bring. Intuitive guidance, however, is all about change. It is energetic data ripe with the potential to influence the rest of the world. To fear change but to crave intuitive clarity is like fearing the cold, dark night while pouring water on the fire that lights your cave. An insight the size of a mustard seed is powerful enough to bring down a mountain-sized illusion that may be holding our lives together. Truth strikes without mercy. We fear our intuitions because we fear the transformational power within our revelations.

American best-selling author and speaker

Everything Happens For A Reason

Iconic black and white photograph of actress Marilyn Monroe

I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go. Things go wrong so that you can appreciate when they go right. You believe less so that you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself. Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Iconic American actress (1926 - 1962)

Gravity Pull of Habit

Blonde model Crissy Moran in grey and white

The gravity pull of some of our habits may currently be keeping us from going where we want to go. But it is also gravity pull that keeps our world together, that keeps the planets in their orbits and our universe in order. It is a powerful force, and if we use it effectively, we can use the gravity pull of habit to create cohesiveness and order necessary to establish effectiveness in our lives.

A Changing, Growing Person

Beautiful blonde with blue eyes in orange top

As you openly, honestly share what you're learning with others, you may be surprised to find that negative labels or perceptions others may have of you tend to disappear. Those you teach will see you as a changing, growing person, and will be more inclined to be helpful and supportive as you work, perhaps together, to integrate the 7 Habits into your lives.

Margaret Mitchell on Broken Pieces of Relationship

Blonde Crystal Harris was Playmate of the Month for December 2009

I was never one to patiently pick up broken fragments and glue them together again and tell myself that the mended whole was as good as new. What is broken is broken — and I'd rather remember it as it was at its best than mend it and see the broken places as long as I lived.

American journalist and author who wrote Gone With The Wind (1900 - 1949)
